The opening: Khutbat al-Hajah

Every khutbah opens with these words taught by the Prophet ﷺ. They are also recited at the start of nikah ceremonies and lectures.

إِنَّ الْحَمْدَ لِلَّهِ نَحْمَدُهُ وَنَسْتَعِينُهُ وَنَسْتَغْفِرُهُ، وَنَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنْ شُرُورِ أَنْفُسِنَا وَسَيِّئَاتِ أَعْمَالِنَا، مَنْ يَهْدِهِ اللَّهُ فَلَا مُضِلَّ لَهُ، وَمَنْ يُضْلِلْ فَلَا هَادِيَ لَهُ، وَأَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ، وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ
Inna-l-hamda lillahi nahmaduhu wa nasta'eenuhu wa nastaghfiruh. Wa na'oodhu billahi min shuroori anfusina wa sayyi'aati a'maalina. Man yahdihi-llahu fala mudilla lah, wa man yudlil fala haadiya lah. Wa ashhadu an la ilaha illa-llahu wahdahu la shareeka lah, wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan 'abduhu wa rasooluh.
“All praise is for Allah; we praise Him, seek His help, and seek His forgiveness. We seek refuge in Allah from the evils of our souls and the evils of our deeds. Whoever Allah guides, none can lead astray; whoever He leaves astray, none can guide. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, with no partner; and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and messenger.”
